Douglas E. Smith

Dr. Smith has over 45 years experience as an orthodontist. He was a collegiate scholarship athlete and received his dental degree (DDS) at Emory University. After completing orthodontic training at Boston University, he returned home to Atlanta to practice and came to Savannah to retire. As a sleep apnea patient himself, he returned to practice in 2011, to follow his passion of treating obstructive sleep apnea, bruxism, craniofacial pain, and TMJ with oral appliance therapy. Since 2011, he has become a Diplomate in Dental Sleep Medicine by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine; the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine; and the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines. He is married to Dr. Cynthia Hucks-Smith & they have four children. When not working, Dr. Smith is a beekeeper. He plays tennis regularly, exercises, enjoys DYI home/garden projects and spending time with family & friends. Dr. Smith has over 600 hours of specialty training in Dental Sleep Medicine.  He is also a Certified Provider of the Pneumopedic appliances, a state-of-the-art nonsurgical upper airway remodeling utilizes a
FDAregistered DNA appliance or a mRNA appliance; a Certified Provider of Healthy Start, a pediatric focus on healthy airways in addition to beautiful smiles. He is a member of American Association of Sleep Medicine, American Association of Orthodontists, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, North American Association of Facial Orthotropics, and the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.

Edward A. Jackson Smith

Dr. Jackson Smith completed his undergraduate degree in 2017, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technologies. He graduated Cum Laude and then returned to further expand his knowledge in the areas of chemistry, physics, and biochemistry. In 2018, he received top honor certificates in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, and physical chemistry for his achievements prior to dental school admission. Dr. Smith was accepted into the New York University College of Dentistry in the fall of 2018 and chose to pursue his passion of dentistry.
During the dental school education in New York, Dr. Jackson Smith earned distinction in both academic and clinical achievements, graduating from New York University College of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with his four-year focus in the specialty of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular disorders. Dr. Smith participated in both an honors research program and an honor in clinical experience with the department of Orofacial Pain. His excellence in academic achievement was acknowledged by the honor fraternity of the dental community, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, through induction into the Omega Chapter in 2022.
As a licensed general dentist, Dr. Jackson Smith is serving our community by applying his knowledge to help treat head and neck pain patients underserved in the low country. His experience has taught him of the interconnected web of pain and sleep. Dr. Smith strives to apply, while continuing to expand, his knowledge in the areas of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders, Dental Sleep Medicine, and Laser Applications in Dentistry. Dr. Smith’s continuing education with Tufts University in Boston, Fotona Light-Walker laser systems, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorder Disciplines will continue to strengthen the impact he can make in the lives of this underserved community.
