Dr. Smith has over 45 years experience as an orthodontist. He was a collegiate scholarship athlete and received his dental degree (DDS) at Emory University. After completing orthodontic training at Boston University, he returned home to Atlanta to practice and came to Savannah to retire. As a sleep apnea patient himself, he returned to practice in 2011, to follow his passion of treating obstructive sleep apnea, bruxism, craniofacial pain, and TMJ with oral appliance therapy. Since 2011, he has become a Diplomate in Dental Sleep Medicine by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine; the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine; and the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines. He is married to Dr. Cynthia Hucks-Smith & they have four children. When not working, Dr. Smith is a beekeeper. He plays tennis regularly, exercises, enjoys DYI home/garden projects and spending time with family & friends. Dr. Smith has over 600 hours of specialty training in Dental Sleep Medicine.  He is also a Certified Provider of the Pneumopedic appliances, a state-of-the-art nonsurgical upper airway remodeling utilizes a
FDAregistered DNA appliance or a mRNA appliance; a Certified Provider of Healthy Start, a pediatric focus on healthy airways in addition to beautiful smiles. He is a member of American Association of Sleep Medicine, American Association of Orthodontists, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, North American Association of Facial Orthotropics, and the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.
Dr. Edward A. Jackson

Born in Atlanta with early education in an international school, Jackson is bilingual. He graduated from Armstrong State University with a B.S., Radiologic Sciences, Nuclear Medicine and has post-graduate work in Chemistry. While an undergrad student, he was allowed to attend the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Dentistry's 48 hour class "Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders & Craniofacial Pain for Adults & Children -A System for DX and TX Mini-Residency" with Dr. Smith and other dentists in 2016 presented by Steven Olmos, DDS.

He has been working with us since 2013. He has learned front office and clinical skills and is our IT/Networking staff member for emergencies. As a technician certified in Radiology, he is responsible for our Cone Beam Computed Tomography accreditation. He is attending New York University College of Dentistry, Class of 2022 to become a dentist with specialization in Dental Sleep Medicine and craniofacial pain. He is in the planning stage of airway research involving the sleep position of the tongue.  Jackson will rejoin our practice full time when he completes his doctorate.

Dr. Cynthia Hucks-Smith

Dr. Cynthia has a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi;  a Masters from the University of South Carolina; and a B.S. in Elementary & E. Childhood Ed. From Coastal Carolina University where she was a MVP college athlete in tennis. She has worked as a consultant in a wide variety of arenas, from teaching to government to hospitals to corporations to expand her knowledge base of concentrations within psychology that she found interesting. While in private practice, she founded a nonprofit to provide services and designed a mental health department model for Fulton County Juvenile Court which was awarded a National Award of Excellence. When Dr. Smith’s sleep apnea treatment resulted in the need for more than part-time work, her 20 years of experience in medicine pulled her back to run this specialty practice. She currently works as the Practice Manager overseeing daily operation, ensuring patients receive quality care from referral to recall, and seeking accreditation for our practice and our radiology services to add quality assurance to our practice. To keep in touch with her field, she provides consultations in the areas of Sports Psychology and concurrent treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing and PTSD. Both specialties overlap in the application of psychophysiology based interventions (e.g., arousal reduction, breath training and biofeedback).  In her free time, she enjoys tennis, helping others, and having fun with family and friends.

Tan received his Bachelor of Science with the major in Accounting at George Mason University in Virginia. He decided to move and stay in Savannah, Georgia, because of its peacefulness, southern hospitality and friendliness. He is a funny, friendly and responsible person. Outside the office, he enjoys playing soccer, spending time with his family, and traveling with his fiancé.

Mary was born and raised here in Savannah, GA. In 2014, Mary did one of her two externships with Dr. Smith’s office and was immediately hired after graduation because of her caring nature with patients and her intense interest in dental sleep medicine. She is married to Brian and the proud mother of two beautiful little girls, London and Harper.

Amy was born and raised here in Savannah. After graduating from Savannah Christian, she attended Converse College before returning to Savannah to attend Armstrong State University. While in college, she began working in an orthodontic office and discovered her passion. With 30 years of orthodontic experience, she enjoys learning new concepts, such as ALF with Dr. Smith. She has a true love for the science behind our work and she is compassionate about our patients. She is the proud mother of three: Katie, Carson, and Logan. In her free time she enjoys golfs and enjoys being out on the water or at the beach with her boyfriend, Jeffery, or  watching Carson play baseball.
